Ok guys and gals here's my stab at a blog for my two year stint in the Peace Corps.
For all of you who are just interested in my trip, skip this part. But I've got a hungry pack of loving family members who want to know every detail, and I must obey the rules or suffer the consequence of 50 different e-mails asking me the same questions. Or just simply listening to mom and being completely off target, Sorry Scott I will not be joining you and Kakes for 5 weeks in DC.
Well here's the low-down of what I know so far, which is not too much. But that's not new. My assignment is in Jamaica. I'll be leaving July 1st at the crack of dawn to go to Miami for staging. There they'll give me my passport and such, shots in the butt come in Jamaica. I leave for the island on the third of july. I will be working in environmental promotions somewhere. I have no idea what that really means and I have no clue where I'll be. Although I know I won't be stationed in Kingston, Spanish Town or Montego Bay, the gov't is trying their best not to get me killed. Bad PR.
I will be living with a family during my training which will last 8 weeks. Then I will get my assignment, and live in some sort of residence. Again, I don't know much but it will have four walls, a roof, a bathroom, kitchen but no washing machine. Grams and I went over an extensive session of how to hand wash and line dry clothes. She's damn good at it too.
Ok so I won't have a car, but i've got two feet! Hey I'll be cutting down on my carbon footprint! See I'm starting with the enviro lingo already, half way there, half way there.
I may or may not be by the sea but I will have coffee and that's all that really matters to me. Sorry about the rhyme, didn't mean it, it just spewed out.
ok quickly, I'm tired
Yes you can send me stuff
yes I will put up a wish list, but always count on my ever obsessive need for Lysol.
I will be safe, promise
Yes I will have electricity and water, cold water but water.
Yup, you can visit.....please visit.
But same note, yup I'll be home to visit. But not in the winter! The winter clothes are packed in the attic and they will not come down for two years!
Yes I will be safe.
I should have access to the internet, they have cafes and libraries
Yeah I'll be safe.
I will be near other volunteers and will get to work with them.
ok that's all I know, so now you know.
Love you all.
